Teridian's Innovative 73M1922 MicroDAA Solution Chosen by
STMicroelectronics for Latest Fax, MFP Reference Design
73M1922 leads the industry in cost savings and performance advantages
Irvine, Calif., May 21, 2007- Teridian Semiconductor Corp. today announced that its leadership in the modem space and cost-competitive nature of its latest modem family introductions has been a major factor in STMicroelectronics¡¦ (NYSE: STM) choice to select Teridian¡¦s 73M1922 MicroDAA? device. ST will be incorporating the 73M1922 chipset into its latest Structured Processor Enhanced Architecture (SPEAr?) fax and multi-function peripheral (MFP) reference design. SPEAr, ST¡¦s customizable processor family, supplies a powerful digital engine that offers the possibility of designing special user functions in a fraction of the time and with low investment. Teridian earlier this month unveiled the latest members of its well-known modem product portfolio with the introduction of the 73M1822 and 73M1922 solutions.
¡§Teridian has considerable experience in this market with the deployment of 90 million modem ICs over a 30-year history,¡¨ said Vittorio Peduto, general manager of the Computer Systems Division at STMicroelectronics. ¡§So it was an easy choice to make when coupled with the highly cost-competitive nature of Teridian¡¦s solution and the excellent relationship shared between our companies.¡¨
The 73M1922 constitutes two separate functional units that provide the necessary functionality and the protection required for worldwide homologation. The 73M1902 is a host side device and provides the digital data and control interfaces. The 73M1912 is the line side device. A small pulse transformer forms an isolation barrier, transferring both power and data to the PSTN line side components, resulting in reliable performance in presence of EMI and a tolerance to line voltage variations, thus enhancing overall performance. The 73M1822 single-package option ¡V the world¡¦s first ¡V is also available from Teridian.
¡§We are pleased to work with ST in supporting our mutual customers,¡¨ said Steve McClure, vice president of marketing for Teridian Semiconductor. ¡§With the 73M1922, we¡¦ve again raised the bar on modem technology, and as we continue to innovate and drive intelligent integration in all of our networking, secure access, energy and automation solutions, we expect that customers throughout the world will continue to look to us and rely on our technology and semiconductor solutions.¡¨
The Teridian family of modems provides one of the broadest selections of semiconductor products for today¡¦s set-top box, voice band data modems, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, and fax and MFP applications, and the company¡¦s extensive firmware libraries and reference designs significantly shorten development and certification time.
Pricing and Availability
Volume production for the 73M1822 and 73M1922 solutions are in June; pricing is available upon request. Data sheets and development kits for both devices are also available now, and include a ready-to-use board with an actual 73M1822 or 73M1922 ICs, with firmware and software libraries and a reference design.
