u-Nav Microelectronics broadens product line with the Orion RX2 TM Host Based GPS Solution
u-Nav Microelectronics broadens product line with the Orion RX2 TM Host Based GPS Solution IRVINE, CA May 3, 2007 - u-Nav Microelectronics, developer of one of the world's smallest and lowest power Global Positioning System (GPS) integrated circuits and GPS software, is announcing the availability of the Hosted Orion RX2 TM. This is a host based GPS solution that is easy to integrate and enables a cost optimized 20-channel GPS receiver achieving industry leading sensitivity levels of -160dBm.
Ideal for portable consumer devices, the Hosted Orion RX2 TM solution partitions the navigation software between the uN3010 onboard DSP and host processor to efficiently utilize resources from the host CPU, thus minimizing system cost and board space. The Hosted Orion RX2 TM executes navigation software at 1 Hz rate on the host CPU without real-time interrupts, freeing the host CPU to support multimedia intensive applications or wireless communication. All real time GPS signal processing is fully contained within the uN3010 single chip, thus providing GPS measurement engine functionality for a host based solution.
ˇ§Our solution provides easy and rapid integration of GPS into the customerˇ¦s product and only requires minimal access to the host processor for background tasks,ˇ¨ said Dan Chikami, Product Manager for u-Nav Microelectronics
u-Navˇ¦s Orion RX2 TM software based upon the uN3010 CMOS single chip GPS receiver supports conventional NMEA GPS standalone mode, host mode GPS measurement engine configuration, and cellular push-to-fix operation without compromising excellent GPS performance. In standalone and hosted applications the u-Nav Orion RX2 TM software achieves identical GPS performance. There is no time lag or latency in the GPS position results between hosted and standalone configurations.
u-Nav provides a Software Porting Kit (SPK) that allows the Orion RX2 TM software to be hosted on any desired RTOS. A complete reference solution is available and supported by u-Nav for Windows CE® and Linux operating systems running on ARM® based processor platforms. In addition, Hosted Orion RX2 TM is also supported by u-Nav running under Windows XP®.
ˇ§The availability of the Orion RX2 TM software across multiple RTOS platforms provides for a host-based GPS solution that is very easy to implement and enables our customers to be extremely competitive and differentiated in the portable navigation marketplace,ˇ¨ said Eric Huang, Vice President of Business and Technology Development for u-Nav Microelectronics. ˇ§This new solution furthers our product offerings in the consumer navigation and cellular markets, where customersˇ¦ response to this product has been phenomenal.ˇ¨
Orion RX2 TM Hosted GPS navigation software and the uN3010 single chip are available now. For a demonstration of u-Navˇ¦s state of the art Orion software or for more information please contact u-Nav Microelectronics Corporation.
