Teridian dc/dc converters with 95 percent efficiency

Teridian Corp. has rolled out a new generation of distributed power, insulated type, dc/dc converter that offers an efficiency of 95 percent, enabling use without derating in general applications. According to the company, it is about half the loss of a normal regulated brick converter.
Measuring 58-by-37-by-9.7mm, the iQD series is a quarter-brick type converter. The iQD48025A120V features an input voltage between 42V and 56V, output voltage of 12V, output current of 27A, and maximum output power of 300W. Despite the standard footprint of 58-by-37mm size, the iQD series achieved a 9.7mm profile, allowing applications in a broad range of equipment.

Meanwhile, the eighth-brick type iEB series has a measurement of 58-by-23-by-8.5mm. The iEB48013A120V has a 42V to 56V input voltage, 12V output voltage, 13.5A output current, and 150W maximum output power. Since the POL converter is a fixed power load, the iEB series can supply the rated output power even if the output voltages are varied. And because the pin layout is the same as in the iQD series, drop replacement is possible.

Both series feature no control, insulated functions, standard footprints, and high power densities. Teridian said that the power density is boosted up about three-fold over conventional brick converters, and contributes in the reduction of the mounting area on an equipment board. "These series represent the first new products of FReta family which our company is scheduled to develop in the future," they said.
