GlobeSpan Introduces The World's First 16 Channel Multi-Mode ADSL Chip Set

New 16-port chip set cuts total per-port system costs with twice the density of existing ADSL chip set solutions
Red Bank, New Jersey - February 27, 2001 - Extending its leadership over industry competition, GlobeSpan [NASDAQ: GSPN] today announced the immediate availability of the G-16(tm) multi-mode chip set solution, a new 16-port ADSL chip set that provides twice the density of existing chip set solutions. The G-16 will immediately enable equipment manufactures to design and build low cost, high-density DSLAM network access line cards that utilize half the area of existing ADSL chip set solutions on the market.

System Cost Savings

Higher density line cards translate into substantial system costs savings for equipment manufacturers. A high-density line card allows manufacturers to provision more lines per card and eliminates the need for redundant components. GlobeSpan's G-16 chip set provides equipment manufacturers with system costs savings of up to 30% over existing solutions on DSLAM line card implementations.

Immediate Availability

The G-16 is available now and offers the same proven performance and robust operation as GlobeSpan's Titanium Fourte chip set. GlobeSpan's G-16 minimizes the product development cycle time risk for equipment manufactures and accelerates their time-to-market, which are decisive advantages in a fast-paced market focused on rapid deployment.

"GlobeSpan's G-16 chip set is a breakthrough from which the whole industry will benefit," said Angelo Stephano, GlobeSpan's Vice President of Marketing. "Density, power, performance, and cost are critical design factors for both DSL manufacturers and service providers, and the G-16 optimizes each in delivering the highest-density ADSL solution available in the market today. With the G-16, GlobeSpan has once again set a new standard for DSL industry leadership."
